I stumbled upon Wellspring during a random internet search to find support for my dad, and the discovery has been nothing short of a blessing since.  I called Wellspring and spoke with a friendly person who encouraged my dad and I to drop by for a tour. Three hours later, our tour completed, and we have never looked back.

I had the opportunity to accompany my dad in his programs for a few months, and found that I personally benefitted from participating, both as a support to him but also as a recipient of support. Wellspring recognizes that family members also need support when a loved one is going through such a challenging situation. When I had to return to work, I expressed my concern about how my dad would get to Wellspring considering that he doesn’t drive. However, staff happily made arrangements for his pick up and his drop off at home. Returning to work no longer weighed so heavily on my heart, and it was comforting knowing that he would be able to continue attending programs. I find it an honour to have been able to attend Wellspring.

My dad was at a low point when he first arrived at Wellspring. But, no longer. Now he is a trooper, refusing to give up attending his regular programs without valid reasons. Just try to schedule time with him on a day that he is scheduled to be at Wellspring. It isn’t going to happen!  So far my dad has attended Relaxation & Visualization, Meditation, Reiki, Qi-Gong, Yoga, Cancer Exercise and the new Taking Charge: Men’s Group. He found his comfort level and eventually settled with Meditation, Qi-Gong and Yoga, and these programs have made a significant impact on his health.

As a family, we’ve seen improvement in dad’s physical and emotional health. We are comforted knowing that he is in an environment where he is being both supported and encouraged, not only by the program leaders, but by the other members as well. Spending time with others facing similar challenges and hearing their stories of recovery and success has spurred him along his own healing journey. He commits to daily practice of what he learns at Wellspring, and he even comes home and demonstrates how to meditate, to stretch and breathing techniques.

Sitting at work, knowing my dad is being safely picked up and returned home is extremely comforting. We are so appreciative and grateful for all the staff and volunteer drivers and other Wellspring volunteers who contribute in various ways to make it such a warm and welcoming place. Even when sudden cancellations in programs or drivers occur, the staff makes every effort to ensure my dad gets to Wellspring at his appointed time. There hasn’t yet been a time when I’ve sent an email, or made a phone call without receiving a prompt, friendly and satisfactory response.

The Wellspring instructors are committed to making a difference, they are knowledgeable and competent in their various areas of expertise, and together with the volunteers and the office staff, Wellspring make a team that runs a smooth, efficient, friendly and effective operation.

To all those who provide support in various capacities to Wellspring, thank you.
